David Nixon began practicing magic at a very young age. His father, a lawyer and amateur magician, took David to see performers like Nevil Maskelyne and David Devant. In 1938, Nixon joined The Magic Circle and a local band as a bassist.
During World War II, medically exempted from combat, Nixon toured with the ENSA (Entertainments National Service Association). In 1954, he was invited to appear on the BBC program "What's My Line?", which brought him fame. His many magic shows included "Trix n Nixon" (1962), "Tonight with David Nixon" (1969), "David Nixon's Magic Box" (1970-1971), and "The David Nixon Show" (1972-1977).
