February 7, 2000
Doug Henning spent most of his life looking for magic. I think he found it. In the more than dozen years in which I sporadically worked for Douglas there was never a moment in his attitude toward his art, his friends and co-workers, or his public that compromised through cynicism or insincerity, his insatiable appetite for wonder.
Doug believed in magic and with a masterful blend of charm, sincerity and showmanship, he convinced his audiences to do something that in our heart of hearts we all want to do anyway - believe in magic.
Doug, in his inimitable way, changed the face of magic in the last century. His loss has tragically stolen some of that magic from the lives of millions to whom he brought happiness as well as to those of us whose lives he touched in a more personal way.
Charles Reynolds
